Attrition has paved the way for Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky to continue upon what has been a superb run of form for Arsenal since mid-January.
Aaron Ramsey, first injured in Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Sunderland 10 days ago and the usual first choice in attacking midfield, was ruled out of Wednesday’s friendly between Wales and Costa Rica—a match dedicated to former Welsh national Soccer Jerseys players team manager Gary Speed, who died late last year.
Ramsey, who has served as Wales’ team captain since last March, could not pass a fitness test ahead of the game and has since been ruled out for two weeks, meaning he is all but sure to miss Arsenal’s crucial matches against Liverpool (Saturday) and AC Milan (next Tuesday). It is his second major ankle injury this season.
Where one door closes…
Tomas Rosicky, who had appeared to be on his way out of Arsenal as recently as the just-passed winter transfer window, has since enjoyed a resurgent flurry in that attacking midfield role, capped by his vital goal over the weekend against Tottenham.
Ghosting in at the near post, Rosicky had poked a shot past Spurs keeper Brad Friedel to put Arsenal up 3-2 early in the second half. The Gunners would go on to win 5-2.
Rosicky drew raves for that performance, the latest in what is becoming a healthy line of impressive showings for the diminutive former Borussia Dortmund man.
It was with Custom Soccer Jerseys Rosicky we’d expected to see since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2006-07 season. A creative force with a relentless motor and a howitzer for a right foot.
As Keown so aptly put it, we haven’t seen this Tomas Rosicky for years now—a debilitating injury cast a pall on his career and nearly forced him into early retirement—but he’s welcomed back with open arms into an Arsenal side in desperate need of some creativity to support Robin van Persie, who has often seemed bereft of support up front.
The goal was the icing on Rosicky’s proverbial cake of a performance, but it represented just a smidgeon of his entire body of work against Spurs.
No midfielder was more ubiquitous than he, as the Czech ran rampant throughout midfield, pulling strings this way and that, including teammates in the attacking build-up and looking to put Spurs’ back four under pressure with relish.
It is that type of industry that will be crucial should Arsenal hope to get a result away at Anfield this weekend and even more so when they look to pull off the upset of the century against Milan at the Emirates in less than one week’s time. (The Gunners currently trail Milan 0-4 on aggregate).
Should he play well in both fixtures, Aaron Ramsey may well find himself deemed second best in the attacking midfield position that Rosicky now inhabits.
At the very least, the last month has served as a reawakening for the 31-year-old Rosicky, whom many wearing Arsenal Soccer Jersey‘s fans had deemed surplus to requirements as recently as one month ago.
Thankfully, he’s proven many a pundit wrong.

Let’s hope he keeps that streak going through the next 10 days.
