Zlatan Ibrahimovic double against Roma extends Milan’s lead in Serie A

Two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the second of them seven minutes from time, enabled AC Milan Jersey soccer team players to come from behind and beat Roma 2-1 at San Siro, thereby extending their lead in Serie A.

But Milan are all but certain to be without centre back Thiago Silva for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at home to Barcelona after he suffered a thigh injury.

The influential Brazilian’s problem is the latest in a long line at Milan and Ibrahimovic told reporters that “something has to change” within the club to stop the injuries.

Silva was not fully fit for the Roma match and came off after just 11 minutes as coach Massimiliano Allegri’s decision to play him backfired. He left the San Siro on crutches.

“I decided to risk him today and this is how it went,” Allegri said. “I willingly took the risk because today’s match was fundamental for the Serie A championship.

“And we will now pay dearly for it. He has a problem to his right thigh flexor muscle. I think it is virtually impossible for him to play on Wednesday.”

Daniele Bonera could deputise again at centre half against the Champions League holders with Alessandro Nesta not 100 per cent fit.

But Milan, who were able to welcome back Kevin-Prince Boateng after a lay-off, are well on course to retain their title and now have 63 points, seven more than second-placed Juventus Jersey team , who host Internazionale in Sunday’s top match.

Pablo Osvaldo put Roma ahead on 44 minutes but Ibrahimovic levelled from the penalty spot on 53 minutes after Daniele De Rossi’s handball.

Ibrahimovic then secured the points in characteristically flamboyant fashion as he lobbed the goalkeeper and headed home from close range.

Even so, Milan’s captain, Massimo Ambrosini, was critical of his side’s attitude. “We have got to stop saying that we’re allowed a mistake, because unconsciously we may start toying with the idea that we actually can make a mistake, while instead we cannot,” he said.

“We must not have this type of approach. This can make us think we can lose a match, and well, we cannot.”

With nine games left, Roma remain sixth on 44 points, in the final Europa League position.

Roma’s opener, when Osvaldo finished off De Rossi’s effort, came largely out of the blue with Milan dominating possession. And the visitors could have been 2-0 up early in the second half after Francesco Totti squandered two chances.

The game changed moments later when De Rossi’s handball allowed Ibrahimovic to send his penalty into the centre of the goal.

The former Inter and Juve forward then took his league tally to 22 with a superb goal befitting his stature as one of Serie A’s most lethal strikers of the last 10 years.

Roma’s coach, Luis Enrique, was philosophical in defeat. “I wasn’t satisfied with the first half, because we can do a lot better in terms of ball possession especially,” the former Barcelona midfielder said.

“Paradoxically, our ball possession greatly improved in the second half and Inter Milan Jersey soccer club scored when we were having our best moment in the game. It happens, and we were playing against the strongest team in Serie A right now.”
